The Maritime College of Forest Technology (MCFT) was established in 1946 primarily to retrain and reintegrate returning World War II Veterans into the workforce. Today, MCFT’s focus is on educating future leaders for work in the natural resource sectors within government, industry, private and non-profit organizations.
Who We Are Looking For: The Maritime College of Forest Technology (MCFT) Fredericton Campus is looking for an experienced forest professional to step into the classroom and field to educate future Forest Technologists in Forestry Operations.
If you have spent years planning harvest blocks, managing crews, overseeing road construction, supervising timber harvesting, running silviculture programs, or making other operational decisions in real-world forestry environments — and you’re ready to pass that knowledge on — we want to talk to you.
This position is flexible and depending on the candidate’s availability/interest may be full-time, part-time or contract.
What You’ll Do: Reporting to the Academic Chair, you won’t just “teach theory”, but will bring real forest operations experience into the classroom and field.
You will:
Teach forest operations planning and implementation.
Guide students through harvest planning, layout, productivity estimation, and cost analysis.
Deliver instruction in classroom, computer lab, and field environments.
Run practical exercises that reflect real operational scenarios.
Evaluate student performance and provide direct, constructive feedback.
Mentor students as they transition into being workforce ready.
Contribute to program improvement and curriculum updates to stay aligned with industry practice
Who We’re Looking For: Someone who understands forest operations from the ground up. Someone experienced in operational decisions, managing production pressures and operational budgets.
Diploma in Forest Technology, or BSc Forestry
Minimum 5 years of direct forest operations experience.
Hands-on experience in areas such as (but not limited to):
Timber harvest planning and supervision
Block and road layout
Silviculture operations (planting, PCT, herbicide programs)
Forest road construction and maintenance
Operational cost estimation and productivity tracking
Strong understanding of operational safety standards.
Working knowledge of GPS/GNSS, GIS, and spreadsheet-based cost tracking.
Strong communication skills and confidence leading groups.
Ability to work safely in remote and physically demanding conditions.
Certified Forest Technician with the NBFTA or Registered Professional Forester with ARPFNB. (or eligible).
Strong Assets:
Supervisory or crew management experience.
Experience mentoring or training staff.
Adult education training or instructional experience.
An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
